Media Centre
Attending the hearings
If you wish to attend the Inquiry's hearings please contact the press office on 020 7261 8327 or bmipressoffice@coi.gsi.gov.uk.
The Inquiry has a modern media centre in which journalists can view live proceedings in comfort. Unlike in the hearing room the use of computers is permitted and telephone calls may be made during breaks in proceedings. Attendees may move around the media centre at will (having regard to others), and may enter and leave as they wish.
There is no wi-fi network within the building but mobile broadband devices work. We have also provided two internet-enabled PCs for brief spells of research. There is limited access to power sockets, so it is a good idea to ensure that laptops are fully charged.
Within the media centre, journalists can watch proceedings on three separate screens showing:
- live video feed of proceedings in the hearing room. This will usually show the person who is talking, whether the chairman, advocate or witness;
- instant transcript of proceedings to ensure the accuracy of quotes;
- the evidence that is being referred to in the hearing room.
When space permits, journalists are welcome to take a seat in the public gallery within the hearing room. Experience suggests that many will prefer the more comfortable and informal surroundings of the media centre. For more information on what you can and cannot do in the Inquiry's media centre please read the media centre protocol.
Details of the Inquiry's location, including a map, can be found in our Contact section.
