Welfare support from the Personal Support Unit
For those witnesses who are not former or serving members of the armed forces, or who do not wish to take up any of the military support services but would still like to talk to an independent person about their involvement with the Inquiry, we have arranged for independent assistance to be available.
The Personal Support Unit (www.thepsu.co.uk) is an independent charity based at the Royal Courts of Justice that provides non-legal advice and information for court users. They will provide support for any witnesses attending the Inquiry.
Read PSU's leaflet for witnesses at the Inquiry.
PSU already gives valuable pastoral support at several courts in London and Manchester. Their trained volunteers cannot provide legal advice but can provide a friendly ear to talk through your concerns. There will not be a representative from PSU on site at all times but PSU’s offices are five minutes away and witnesses can drop in during working hours or ask for a volunteer to accompany them to the Inquiry.
All witnesses, regardless of their status, are entitled to contact PSU and take up the service, which is completely free.
