Welfare support for veterans
All veterans who are potential witnesses will have received a letter from the Ministry of Defence offering independent legal assistance. This letter was accompanied by an information pack containing, among other things, details of the welfare support available to serving and former members of the armed forces.
Army veterans
Army veterans are eligible for support from a variety of sources. These include: the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency (SPVA) who operate a helpline on 0800 169 2277 during normal working hours; the relevant Regimental or Corps Headquarters; the Army Benevolent Fund; the Royal British Legion; the Officers' Association (www.officersassociation.org); and SSAFA (www.ssafa.org.uk) operates a confidential support helpline on 0800 731 4881.
Veterans from other services
Veterans of the Royal Navy and RAF can contact the SPVA and other organisations listed above. The NPFS, Naval Families Federation (www.nff.org.uk) and the RAF Families Federation can also provide welfare support.
